First Post of the Website

Hey there!

This website is now live. This is my personal website for posting some of my projects and such. I also have some plans to shoot some YouTube videos detailing some of my older computers, radio projects and other coding funs.

Here's a little FAQ (Not that anyone has asked anything yet)

Website FAQ:

  • Why does it look so bad?

The website hasn't been "designed" yet. A lot of the work has been writing the custom CMS solution I am running this website with. I also have some strict requirements:

    • Compatible with Internet Explorer 4 minimum. This is so people browsing on old operating systems have a good opportunity to access the website. This includes the backend, as much as possible
    • Compliant with HTML 4.01
    • Should use as little client-side JS as possible. Preferably none.
    • Should be as fast as possible. RDS caching, page caching and CDN.
  • Why do you care about Internet Explorer??

This is really the only consistent browser I can target for users of old operating systems out of the box. By supporting IE4, I can expect decent support for Windows 98 SE users as a minimum, allowing them to grab tools and drivers from a safe resource.

  • Are your downloads safe?

I don't really have much incentive to upload viruses and spyware onto my website. I am very clearly identifying who I am, especially with me putting my radio callsign up on this website. All GPD downloads are pulled from their Google Drive links, verified, hashed to get the SHA-1 and MD5 so you can verify your copy is the same as mine, and then pushed to Wasabi, and a magnet link is made. Other downloads from my site may not be as easily verifiable. I may make my own compilations of drivers, using those that I have scanned, used and verified working.

  • How do I get a QSL card?

I haven't planned a contact form, as I have yet to find a decent solution. But I am considering this, and it is in my website todos. Your best bet until then is to add your logs to QRZ

Website Todo:

I still have some todos as of the creation of this post:

  • Adding more GPD downloads
  • A backend to make adding posts and downloads easier
  • Cleanup of some boilerplate CSS
  • A better colour theme (Grey is so boring)
  • Some snazzier stuff, graphics, etc
  • Keeping it HTML 4.01 Strict compliant.
  • Adding some social buttons, nothing "smart" or tracking. Just some links.
  • Adding a contact
  • RDS caching, page caching and CDN.

Website Wishlist:

  • Automated QSL Log Publishing on my site
  • Maybe some PSKReporter maps embeds?
  • Comments? Will need some decent spam filtering… Can't use third-party embeds like Disqus due to Internet Explorer 4 compatibility requirement
  • Mirrors for various game-console-based and obscure Linux distributions and websites.
  • Some YouTube posts.
